Welcome to Conservation ecology of Borearctia menetriesii
Welcome to the website of the project studying the taxonomy, biology and conservation ecology of the legendary moth Borearctia menetriesii.
Most of the content shown here is based on an in-vitro population derived from a single Siberian female ex ovo in July 2011. Out of the one hundred caterpillars about one half survived until overwintering and nineteen developed into adults. The pheromone was analysed and synthetised. However, the field tests were not successful, and more research will be needed.
In the summer 2018 our expedition found again a female Borearctia menetriesii in southern Trans-Baikalia. Now a new in-vitro population is developing. The experiences will be reported here. Stay tuned...
